As an American Red Cross course, the purpose of the Lifeguard Management

This course will provide the student with knowledge and skills to safely enter a

As a continuation of Scuba 1, this course will expand the students knowledge and

This course is designed to introduce the student to the fundamental skills involved in

This course is designed to introduce the student to the fundamental skills involved in
canoeing. The student will have the opportunity to experience paddling strokes of
various difficulties in a variety of fixed and moving water. This course will be taught
in cooperation with the Flint River Outpost. This course will focus on the technical
aspects of canoe paddling, reading hydraulic features, canoeing nomenclatures, and
will address other issues such as environmental care, individual and group
leadership, and team building.

PHED 1236 Pilates I (0-2-1)
Pilates, developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920's, is a series of controlled
movements engaging one’s body and mind which focuses on improving flexibility
and strength for the total body without building bulk. Emphasis is placed on
strengthening the “core” or “powerhouse” of the body which includes the abdominal
muscles, the back, and the buttocks. This course focuses on a progression of
exercises from beginner to intermediate and assumes that the student has no prior
knowledge of pilates exercises.
